Malaysia

This two-year project involved reorganising the postal business operation of Pos Malaysia. Transend managed the centralisation of new information and measurement systems specifically designed for the Malaysian environment. Mail centre, delivery and transport systems were also restructured, resulting in service performance levels – which had been less than 50% – increasing to above 90%.

In 2002, Transend signed a two-year management services contract for the management and operations of Maltapost. This contract was extended until the end of March 2005. Separately, in the first-ever international investment of this type, Transend took a 35% equity stake in Maltapost. We appointed a Chief Executive and two other senior managers. Two New Zealand Post executives were also appointed to the Maltapost Board of Directors.

Transend was contracted in 2004 by the World Bank to reform and modernise the postal sector in Mozambique. The review covered all areas of the business including analysing critical issues relating to Universal Service Obligations, social services, reserved areas and the drafting of a new postal law.
